Friday face off - May 19th

Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic Books and Beyond Reviews
The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.

Review: Soul Mate

Blurb
12688682Everyone believes Tommy's best friend died in a terrible accident. Only Tommy knows that it wasn't an accident at all. He made a drunken mistake he can never take back. And now he's haunted, literally. It sounds nuts, and sometimes Tommy is not sure if he is nuts. It doesn't seem to matter too much until he meets Suki.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audio book by the author, narrator or publisher.

the first part of the book was pretty slow and that caught me off guard being a paranormal story, now it did make sense to explain lots of things but I think it could have been faster.

the second part of the book was more dynamic and intriguing a good change of pace, and the little mystery in that part was worth it.

This week's theme or feature is " Lion " and the quote with it is " If you place your head in a lion’s mouth, then you cannot complain one day if he happens to bite it off."
El tema o portada de esta semana es " León " y la cita con él es "Si colocas tu cabeza en la boca de un león, entonces no puedes quejarte un día decide quitartela. "

For this theme I decided to go with C.S. Lewis -  The lion, the witch and the wardrobe

Review: Immortal: Curse of the Deathless

Blurb
29997758If Asher Hearst had a superpower, it would have to be his ability to take a punch, laugh it off, and keep on swinging.

So yeah, immortality comes with a few perks.

As a college student slash small-time fixer, he's about to take a job that's best left to the pros. A proposition by a dryad to save witches from the Inquisition is a first, but he isn't one to balk when the odds are stacked against him...  at least, not while he's drinking on someone else's dime.

The powers that be in the supernatural world aren't anything to sniff at, so it should come as no surprise that Asher gains his fair share of enemies. At the very least, you'd think traveling across space and time would put him on a path towards a promising future-- maybe even give him a shot at romance? Yeah, right.

Immortal: Curse of the Deathless is an action-packed, dark and gritty comedy with a dash of horror. Over its three parts, the book spans a contemporary, urban setting, as well as Tír na nÓg, the demesne best known for being home to the Fae (Sídthe) from classic Celtic Mythology

it was pretty interesting actually, liked that the plot was pretty solid and the humorous part of it was cool. Asher didn't seem to end a problem and was getting in another altogether how I never knew, he just had that luck, the twins were pretty comical.

the character development was great and the twists here and there were well placed and exploited, it was a good listening.

the second one sounds pretty interesting too for what I got from the preview and seems asher is coming back to the luck that make him what he is.

Review: Severance

Blurb
33786887In Severance, a dark, adult urban fantasy novel from the Faltering Souls series, Nevaeh has to face the overpowering gravity of her choice to save those she loves while striving for strength to fight her greatest threat—herself.

Nevaeh Richards makes her declaration. Living a life in which she has few possessions, she sacrifices the only thing of worth she has to offer—what the Dark One wants the most—all for the slim chance of redeeming the souls of George, the man who raised her, and Gavyn, the Light Celata who holds a piece of her heart.

Her gifts are unfurling now, but so is a fierce, unpredictable beast inside her. While she struggles to keep herself—and the beast—in check, she has to play the part of a Dark Celata and fulfill every wickedly tempting task the evil beings command of her. Each mission she goes on, each time she uses her gifts, the line she toes between the woman she used to be and the monster she reluctantly yearns to become grows thinner.

As Nevaeh deals with her own turmoil, Archard watches the world he's accepted as his own begin to suffer for the mistakes he’s made. The sacred laws which segregate the realms and hinder demons from freely moving among humans are less and less effective with each passing day. He’s failed to keep Nevaeh out of Evil’s clutches, and so the shadows of Hell are creeping through. In an attempt to right his wrongs—and heal the hole in his heart—Archard chases his elusive woman, but every lead that should bring him closer to Nevaeh only ends with more questions about who she is, where she comes from, and how to save her—if he can save her at all.

Will Nevaeh survive the soul-severing decision she’s made?

Will those who love Nevaeh survive her?

It also contains material that may be a trigger for those affected by physical, sexual, or mental abuse, or the tragic loss of a loved one. it was a rollercoaster this one, can't wait for the next book already.

it played well with the twists it did and the revelations were pretty shocking and oh my god the end, I thought I was going to die or something, I liked that this one gives a little background on nevaeh family and what transcended before and a reason why to what is happening in the present and why some things were so distorted and difficult in falter.

the characters developed greatly in this one and I can only image what will happen next.

Review: The Final Reconciliation

Blurb
33958141TAKE OFF YOUR MASK.

Thirty years ago, a progressive rock band called The Yellow Kings began recording what would become their first and final album. Titled “The Final Reconciliation,” the album was expected to usher in a new renaissance of heavy metal, but it was shelved following a tragic concert that left all but one dead.

The sole survivor of that horrific incident was the band’s lead guitarist, Aidan Cross, who’s kept silent about the circumstances leading up to that ill-fated performance—until now.

For the first time since the tragedy, Aidan has granted an exclusive interview to finally put rumors to rest and address a question that has haunted the music industry for decades: What happened to The Yellow Kings?

The answer will terrify you.

Inspired by The King in Yellow mythos first established by Robert W. Chambers, and reminiscent of cosmic horror by H. P. Lovecraft, Laird Barron, and John Langan, comes The Final Reconciliation—a chilling tale of regret, the occult, and heavy metal by Todd Keisling.

it was an amazing tale, liked it so much. one of the things that was more enticing for me was the magic part it was so mystical and interesting, now the way they got tricked was a little weird but understandable.

I think one have the potential to be a must cult book, really a wonderful plot with interesting characters and a little of mythology.

it was pretty good, after the short of Xmas night, this was pretty interesting since you know a little background for Kath and all, it had a lots of twists this one that were very welcomed.

the narrator voice was nice too, I could feel the emotions surging within her voice.

the plot and premise of the book is pretty cool they have werewolf's, vampires, humas trying to help but something I noticed was the little cameos here and there, they were fun, lol Nora Roberts, and that did make it pretty enjoyable for me actually that they were on a quest of their own but since they were teenagers and such they didn't knew that much of the world but were learning fast.

a delectable reading and hearing.

it was an interesting story about this guy and his dad, he was remembering about a forest of his childhood and some other things that happened in there, now he have grown and wants to go back there. I liked that it was pretty easy to follow and to learn some things about what he remember. if there is a full novel about that one I would want to hear it or read it.
