Windward Secrets Tour

Windward Secrets
Fiction:  Suspense, Mystery

At just over 67,700 words Windward Secrets is a fast paced mystery laced with humor, suspense, and a touch of the paranormal that will make the reader gasp at times, and soften their hearts at other times.

When Claire McPherson booked Windward Cottage, for the annual reunion with three college friends, her biggest concern was whether they would like the weather-beaten, old Victorian on Cape Cod.  Claire, Diane, Jill, and Caroline are in for more than a little Right and R.   Windward Cottage has its own special powers of seduction.  After 35 years of friendship they thought they knew everything about each other, but the old house draws confessions out of each and leads them unwillingly into a 50-year-old mystery.

What was planned to be a vacation filled with fun, food, and reminiscing turns into one that will change their lives forever.  Who or what is trying to frighten them?  Only one woman’s stubborn determination keeps them at Windward Cottage when common sense tells them to leave.   Fear, danger, and unexplained events connect the four women to each other and to Windward Cottage.  Three of the women find their futures, and one finds her past.

Readers will recognize someone they know in every character as Windward Secrets heightens their awareness of the heinous crime of human trafficking.

Book 0.5 in the Declan Reede: the Untold Story Series

Strap in, get ready to start your engines and see where it all began.

From an early age, Declan Reede’s only goal was to race in the ProV8 Championship Series. One thing he couldn’t anticipate was that a blistering kiss shared with his best friend, Alyssa Dawson, might derail his plans.

While he knows things between them will never be the same, it’s impossible to predict just where the road will take them, or how rocky it might get.

Will he decide to fight for love or follow his dreams?

Start Declan Reede's story today with the FREE prequel novella:

I was given an ARC of this story for an honest review. This is the prequel to Decide. It is the whole beginning of Declan and Alyssa’s relationship. They are in their last year of high school and are trying to come to terms with what they want in their future. Declan is bound and determined to be the youngest Pro-V8 champion in the history of the sport and Alyssa is wanting to go to uni and have a family. Their lives change in just one night. It goes from the best night ever to the worst night ever all because of words that should not have been said. Can this relationship work? Will they be able to come back together or will their life be torn apart forever?
This was a very interesting book. I was unsure of my reaction to this because I am much older than the main characters, but I was able to put that aside and enjoy the book. I would like to see where this story goes. Good, solid start.

Book 1 in the Declan Reede: the Untold Story Series

Hold on tight, stick to the racing line, and watch for the corners.

Four years after making the decision to leave his home town behind, all of Declan Reede's dreams have come true. Unapologetically foul-mouthed, driven, and well known for his off-track antics, his success seems unstoppable. At least until Queensland Raceway and a chance sighting of the girl who once held his heart. Now, getting around the track seems an impossible battle as he struggles to return to his previous form. With his career racing downhill faster than his V8 on Mount Panorama, there's more than just his reputation on the line.

What will it take to put the brakes on his decline?

I was given an ARC of this story for an honest review.
Declan has made it. He was the youngest champion of the ProV8 Tour, but now his life is falling apart. He can’t sleep, he can’t focus, he has DNF’d (Did Not Finish) multiple times in a row and he is pissed. There is a reason for it though. He caught sight of the girl he loved a long time ago in the stands at a race with another man. But you see, Declan is no longer that same 17-year-old boy and Alyssa is not that same 17-year-old girl. Four years had passed since that horrible night of their last formal. The night Declan threw everything away. He has spent that time trying to rid himself of her by sleeping with so many women that he couldn’t come up with a number if he tried. He is wild an out of control. For a while, it was drugs, but he kicked that, now it’s drinking and partying. Clubbing and women.
Until the Bathurst 1000. The endurance race he is running when his world comes apart. His team is all set to win when once again, while behind the wheel his mind wanders to Alyssa. Yup, you guessed it. DNF #6.
This is the story of how Declan is going to get his life back. Will he confront the demons of that poisoned relationship. Will he be able to move on and get his mind right? How is he going to confront his past and will he come out unscathed?

Warning, there is a huge cliffhanger. I definitely did not see it coming!

Good writing, solid characters. Would definitely like to read more of this series.

S. L. Bynum Interview

Tell us a little about yourself and your background? I started writing when I

was 12, and my first novel was supposed to be like a book in the

“Goosebumps” series. It was awful. The books I have out now were written

after a lot of practice. I’m 26, and besides books, I like desserts, playing

games, and dancing to music (mostly when I’m alone). I live in the city of

Greensboro, NC.

Which writers inspire you? J. K. Rowling, because she’s so creative in her

stories and she had setbacks in her career, just like me. Christopher Paolini

and R. A. Salvatore inspire me when I’m writing in my favorite genre,

Have you written any other novels in collaboration with other writers? Not

yet, but maybe in the future!

When did you decide to become a writer? I fell in love with writing when I

did a homework assignment for my brother, when he was in 3rd grade. I had

to write my own rendition of a fairy tale, and I did my own version of The

Three Little Pigs. I fell in love with the ability to create my own characters

and my own world with just my imagination.

I didn’t seriously start thinking of writing as a career until I was 16, and I’ve

been working on that dream diligently since I was 18. Now I have two books

published, and I feel so blessed.

Do you write full-time or part-time? Part-time for now, but I’m working so

hard to do it full-time so I can quit my retail job!

Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea

takes you? I start with a very rough outline, sometimes a chapter-by-chapter

one. My book always turns out different from the original outline though, so

I’m surprised at where the story takes me by the end of it.

Do you have a strategy for finding reviewers? I go to Goodreads groups that

read in the genre of the book I need reviewers for. There are also some

websites that have a list of reviewers.

What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews? Love ‘em both. It means

people are reading my books.

The good reviews mean I’m doing something right. Most of the time I can

use bad reviews as constructive criticism to make my next book even better.

The bad ones are also just haters sometimes. :)

How can readers discover more about you and you work?

Blurb: Dreams do come true, but in Abigail’s case, she wishes that were anything BUT true.

Eight years ago, when people still used landline phones and desktop computers, sixteen-year-old Abigail had everything a happy teenager could ask for—a loving family, two best friends, and a sexy prom date. But all of this blows apart when her dreams, which involve terrible accidents, start to actually occur in her hometown. Soon Abigail’s life consists of putting together vague clues from her dreams to save the lives of those she cares about, but she isn’t always successful. As she sinks into isolation, paranoia, and heartache, she resolves to stop the nightmares altogether, relying on someone who is not what they appear to be.

DREAMVISION is filled with horror and suspense at every turn, and is told in the form of a blog from Abigail’s perspective during the year 2007.

Excerpt: Warm wind rushed past me as I ran to the end of our street and across another street. Trixie’s house was about a mile from mine. I was athletic, so the distance was barely a problem for me.
When I reached Trixie’s gray, one-story, ancient house, I rang the doorbell three times. Then I stood and waited, trying to catch my breath. My heart was hammering against my chest, as though it wanted to burst out of it. I had a bad feeling for some reason.
Trixie opened the door, to my great relief.
“Abby? What are you doing here?” she asked.
“I need…to tell you…something,” I panted.
“Did you run here?”
“Yes. Is…your mom home?” I didn’t want anyone around when I told Trixie what I learned. Trixie didn’t have any siblings, or a dad. Her dad had run off before she’d been born.
“Yeah,” Trixie answered. “What–?”
“Then can we go for a walk? I have something important to tell you. And I want you to listen.”
“You can come in. My mom’s just upstairs taking a bath so she can’t hear us–”
“She is?!?” I pushed past Trixie into the house.
“Hey–! Abby!” Trixie protested, but I didn’t pay attention to her. I ran down the hallway to the first bathroom, the one next to Trixie’s room. It was empty. I continued on to Mrs. Vander’s bedroom, and the bathroom door in there was closed. I heard music playing inside, and Mrs. Vander was singing along with it.
I lightly knocked on the door. I didn’t want to seem too urgent. But what excuse would I give her?
Trixie came into the room. “Abby, what the heck is going on? Why are you bothering my mom?”
From the bathroom, Mrs. Vander yelled, “Trixie, what do you want?”
“Get your mom to come out,” I told Trixie, pushing her up to the door. “Tell her anything!”
“Why–?” Trixie began.
“Just do it. She’s the one I dreamt about!” I had a terrible feeling in my gut.
“Mom!” Trixie yelled through the door. “I have something to show you! Come out please!”
I heard the splashing of water. After a few more seconds, the door flew open. Mrs. Vander stood before us wrapped in a pink towel, with her short brown hair dripping wet. The music I heard was blaring from a boombox, sitting on a shelf beside the tub of water. From it, a country singer was crooning, “It’s not ooooverrrrr…”
“What is it, Trixie?” Mrs. Vander asked irritably. Then she spotted me. “Oh, hello, Abigail.”
“Hi,” I said.
“I didn’t know you were here. Well, Trixie, what did you want?”
Trixie looked to me for help. “Umm…”
Before she could come up with an excuse, there was a tremendous crash behind Mrs. Vander. A gasp escaped from my throat, and Trixie let out a scream.
We all turned to look, just in time to see the boombox splash into the tub of water, sending a wave of it onto the floor. Sparks shot up into the air, and smoke furled up from the water. The boombox let out one last garbled cry of “…ooo…ve…errrrrr…” and died out.
